    Hey Meg,

Apologies for the delay! Here I am at last...

Firstly, I just want to say that your writing gives me real pleasure. Your precis of 20,000 LUTS is pithy, contextualised, thematically incisive and sophisticated - which is why it's a shame your written assignment doesn't make it into the OGR. Get your proposal up and @Phil in good time - even if you have to hobble back to the PC...

Your visual concept is satisfying - reflecting the underlying menace of these adventures. Don't be afraid to apply artistic licence if doing so will make your image 'pop' - for example, even though the glow from the volcano is described as 'faint', if your scene would benefit from the collision of orange light and blue light - just collide them. Your role of concept artist is also to elaborate, reinscribe and IMAX these spaces for a 21st century audience. Remember too that your creating these pieces for a cg animation - and that doesn't necessarily equate with photorealism; for example, take a look at these backgrounds for Samurai Jack:

    also, consider these:

I'm just suggesting that maybe you could push a style that marries something more illustrative with your concept art?

Meanwhile, I've shared this resource with a number of your classmates - two ways to work up colour palettes - might prove useful!

Meanwhile, where's that Kong review got to...? ;)

  2. Wait a minute, so going illustrative and stylistically mad with this is an option... ?

    SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Finally, an excuse to push my obsession with implausibly coloured landscapes into something legitimate! Thank you Phil! Also The Mysterious Geographical Explorations of Jasper Morello is fantastic, thanks for showing me that. Also also review is on its way, my first draft was on my pen drive so I'll redo it.

  3. Meg - you'll need a proper justification and a genuine visual concept - this is concept art for animation, so yes. But you're a designer now - so design!
